Isaiah started attending the Palm Beach Habilitation Center during the summer of 2019 in the work training program, Crew2U. While Isaiah was on the work crew, he also attended the PB Hab Center’s job readiness class every Monday learning about working in the community and employer expectations. In February of 2020 he trained to work on the production line for retail packaging. Isaiah was offered a transfer to the work training program in food service in TJ’s Café. He started his training in the dish room and eventually learned to operate the cash register and became the Café’s cashier.
Even in the midst of a pandemic, Palm Beach Habilitation Center’s food service program has helped 9 people find employment over the past year and a half. Isaiah was doing so well that the career development staff looked for opportunities for employment in the community for him. He continued working in the cafeteria taking on more responsibilities such as delivering food orders to the workshop and assisting others in the Café’s kitchen. His employment coach assisted him in finding a job in the community. Isaiah was offered a position and started work in August of 2021. While visiting him at work, his job coach reports he is all smiles and grateful for the training he received at the Center and for his new job.
Thanks to community supporters, the Palm Beach Habilitation Center is able to provide employment and job training to Isaiah and other individuals in our food service program. Isaiah is just one example of the many people with disabilities in Palm Beach County who have been positively impacted by the Palm Beach Habilitation Center’s food service training program.
